« The 23rd Annual Mille Lacs Crossing | Main | Another BIG day for me :) »
The Borrow-Link's-Gear-Success-Streak continues!!

We made it! We won!! We finally crossed Mother Mille Lacs!!!
The Crossing presented us with a beautiful sunny day, 70F, winds around 6-10 knots, and 61 sailors eager to get across the lake. Margot competed in Sport Class with our Mistral Prodigy/6.0m sail, Paul competed in a VERY tough Open class with his Mistral Equipe/10.8m sail, and I competed in the Longboard Limited Class with our Mistral Superlite/Link's 8.5m sail. Margot finished fifth from the women!! Paul finished in the top ten from the Open Class! I placed FIRST in my class!! Mistral products rule:) I'm so stoked!! I had to pump my sail (my technique needs alot of work) for the last 5-7 miles to make sure I stayed ahead of the other sailors in my class. WOW, that was tough! The course was a very long 16.152 miles, taking over 2hrs to complete.
The photo above is something we wanted to do for a couple of years now :) Team Iowa, and Team Canada are represented under the Big Fish with Paul's Carve 111 in his Jaws...hehe! L-R: Randy-USA, Ulf-USA/SWE, Paul-CAN, Margot-CAN/GER, Woody-CAN, and Larry-USA.
Thanks everyone for making this a REALLY FUN regatta!!
WOOHOO!!

All I know for next year is GO BIG!! My 6m sail was the smallest sail out on lake and everybody was just cruising by me. The conditions were perfect for an awesome regatta. But the key is to have the right gear for the right conditions. It was an incredible feeling getting past that upwind mark in such a big group and out on the "ocean". One thing I will always remeber is the great camaraderie amongst all the sailors and the organizers. 5th in Women's sport class Woody, sounds a whole lot better than 54th. overall. What a great time and I'm already looking forward to next year and seeing everybody again. Surf's up - I'm hooked!

Hi Woody & Margot;
Just a little note to you guys. I just almost finished sending you an e-mail then I pressed the wrong key and lost all that hard worked letter I was writing. I will keep this one short and will post promptly. I am sending this note from our station computer on my spare time. THX for the quick return note to my quandry. I should have tried ca. on your web. I was commisserating on our race in my aborted e-mail and how I was going to get a borrowed 8.5 and a 50+ cm. fin and if that can't be accomplished then I would bring some antipersperant to camouflage my smell so you would not be able to smell me coming in for the kill.I mean from behind. That of course is very dependant on how much wind we have for the race. I have found that I have a large degree of affinity for strong wind and waves so all bets are off if the wind is hurricanish.
Congrats on the finish and continue to keep in touch.
Dot see eh!
