Regatta's Regatta's Regatta's !!

August 9, 2006

Well it sure has been a busy couple of weeks for The Woody's!!
Two weekends ago with The Surfer's we attended the inaugural Bradford Beach Jam Regatta held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the water's of Lake Michigan and had an awesome time! All the kids had a blast in the water park hotel and campground and the adults had fun driving and doing some windsurfing. After completing all of, and some real challenging races, Surfy was rewarded with a 3rd place finish in Sports Class! Way to go girl!! Margot and I both placed first in our classes. Margot pumped her way (around the course that is!) to keep the lead in Sport Fleet! Looking good out there Schwaby! I was also first overall in the regatta, so we're really stoked finishing first together like that! Great weekend!
Last weekend Schwaby and I decided at the last minute (as always) to hit the road again for a water front festival in Minominee, Michigan which included a windsurfing regatta on the clear warm waters of Lake Michigan. This is the very best regatta we have EVER attended!! From camping on the beach with your gear rigged all weekend in front of you, to quaint little shops and cafe's, walking distance to downtown, awesome live music and reserved seating for the most spectacular fireworks display we've ever seen!! So many things to do for the kids and adults! We will make this an annual event for the whole family for sure! This regatta we both sailed really good, but the one who stepped it up another gear was Schwaby! She held on to an 8.5m sail on her new Prodigy when 90% of the top guys racing were on 9m sails!! Way to go sweety, you really rocked out there!! Margot was the top female racer of the weekend and was second overall in Sports Fleet! She would have been 1st overall, but after having to throw out 1 race after 7 races (you have to throw out a race every 5 races), she ended up second. Too bad, because she was smokin' out there!! I finished around 7th overall and could have done a bit better if I had sailed the last 2 races, but decided to get back in and start packing up all our gear as we had a long drive back. Really awesome time together that's for sure!!
Next up is The Canadian National Windsurfing Championships in Kingston, Ontario August 24-27 where Paul and I will be competing for 4 days of racing!! We're planning on driving down the FJ Cruiser with Paul's windsurfing trailer in tow.

Lots of laughs setting up our mini-me tent...thanks Al!

We parked right beside this guys FJ Cruiser and when he got out of the restaraunt the same time as us, he was trying to open his doors with the remote key and his kids were tring to open our doors...so many laughs!!

You certainly are having a blast, and rewarding. smiley

Hate to be the dude to pay for your gas on those trips.

Hahahahahaha

The Moose is 'thirsty' for gas, but the FJ is pretty good...about 2-1/2 times better than the Blue Moose!!

Al, thanks again for letting us borrow your tent!
Taking down camp was a piece of cake smiley

Looks like lots of fun and lots of laughs. Nice tent!

I'm still laughing when I look at the picture of the tent. Woody's last famous words were...Schwaby why do you want to bring our tent and take up 4 acres, I'll borrow one from my brother Al!!
It was so hillarious, but we slept in it every night. We could still hear everybody laugh about us in their campers! smiley

Glad the tent kept you cozy.

I watched the show when OCC built the Caterpillar bike.

How come there are 3 boards just floating in the water in the beach pic w/nobody on them? Is the water really shallow and they're sitting sorta on the bottom? Or are they free boards? Can I have one? smiley

Posted by: Guinevere at August 18, 2006 6:35 AM

those are our boards tied off with some rope to an anchor. Makes it easier to get on the water.
