Windsurfing for the soul...
So many times throughout the year windsurfing, we are full-on crashing through the waves, racing overpowered so you can be 'just a bit faster' than your competitor, or not going out because it's not windy enough....
Here we are in the middle of October, and as the windsurfing season winds down, it's nice to enjoy the crisp air, sunshine, while gliding through flat-waveless-water on a longboard. Longboarding is in essence, the soul of windsurfing. Lets face it, everyone has pretty much longboarded at one time or another and most people have learned to windsurf on a longboard. As a matter a fact, the 'longboard' was the first board developed for the sport of windsurfing. Well yesterday, Woodette and I decided to go out for a sail when there was "not enough wind". I hopped on my Mistral Superlite, Woodette on her Prodigy, and with the slightest breeze I was gliding effortlessly along only hearing the sound of the water splashing gently on the board. This is quite hypnotic in a sense. We had the whole lake to ourselves. No boats, no other people, no noise, just the two of us gliding along and listening to our voices echo across the waveless water. We had a great, memorable, and perhaps last sail (although I doubt that!) of a windsurfing season on our longboard's.
Stay Cool...

Al, that is great you thought of taking pictures of this sail session. I will always remember that amazing sky in the West when I look at these pictures. You can see the reflextion in our sails. Beautiful!

Nice shot Al. It's weird. I was only 80km north of you guys on the same day fin-screaming-powered on my 8.5/Zajcek. I almost took out my Carve 111 out but then felt the water during a blown jibe and thought better of it. Yesterday would have been sweet too! Hoping for more!!!

Pauli,
we got out yesterday too. Sweet and fast! I posted some great pics Josh took of us. He was just itching to get out, but doesn't have a warm enough suit (yet)

I can relate to the superlite experience. I loved it for so many years. I have a brand new Mistral Superlite still in bubble packaging. I purchased two because I knew that the superlite was by far the best there was. I have used one and still have the virgin board in the bubble pack. I need to let it sail away. It is for sale to someone that truly will appreciate it as much as I did and still do. If interested please contact me at ricksquickfit@aol.com. I have brand new regatta sails also.

I love this site because Woody brings back memories that are forever stored in my widnsurfing mind. This past weekend I was looking at the new equipment package that I have that belongs to my bubble wrapped superlite and it reminded me of the first time I put together my first superlite and sailed it on it's maiden voyage. The excitement, the newness of the sport, the clean fresh feel of the water and the sounds that go along with the voyage. I still have my first superlite and my virgin board still in the pack....awaits for it's maiden sail.
Woody, you will be the one to experience that one partner next year. Til then, enjoy the holidays and dream of the future sails and beyond. Talk soon, Rick.
